Day 22 - A picture of something you wish you were better at
Yup. I suck at making decision. Do NOT get me wrong. If it's something I want, or something I stand strong on.. I have no problem making it a known fact. I haven't been called a bitch a time or two in my life (ok..that's probably an understatement) without earning said title and speaking my mind.... more times than I should have perhaps???? However, as Wayne has learned (which he does the same thing.... love you babe...lol) if it's something like "what do you want for dinner"...and I don't have anything on the mind.. my opinion is "I don't care". I may say what I am against.. ie "i don't care..but I don't want pizza". But when it comes to making decisions that I don't have a strong opinion on...or perhaps I'm too nervous to be forward (don't be shocked..it happens...lol) I much rather prefer the "what do you think/want" option.....
So.. I wish I were better at making decisions......

30 day challenge / day 21
Day 21 - A picture of your favorite night .
I've had a lot of awesome nights. Aussome nights to be exact. There were some sunsets in Australia (which I think I've already featured) and some other nights upon this 30 yr old life that has made an impact.... but this picture...def captures it.... and only one person probably will understand this post....... :D

30 day challenge / day 18
Day 18 - A picture of your biggest insecurity
Not sure this is a battle I will ever get over.. My biggest insecurity is my weight. Always has been. Even when I was at a size when coworkers would tell me I looked like I had an eating disorder (gee..thanks) I still never felt skinny enough.
I know the reason for some of this, but not sure I'll ever fully get past this insecurity.

Day 17 - A picture of something that has made a huge impact on your life recently
Yup. that was more sarcasm.
Snow...... I'm over it... done with it. However, he's not done with us. Already hit like 27'' or so of snow since December 1st. And of course, I'm in a career that doesn't do snow days. Matter of fact, the national guard will come and GET you if you aren't able to make it to work. They totally don't put *that* in the nursing program brochure. The snow is causing major impacts on traffic and commuting. And it seems that every time I'm about to return to work after a few days off. Well, guess what. It's time for yet another snow storm. Oh joy. Please not the sarcasm on the "oh joy" comment, cause yeah. I'm laying it on quite thickly. Thanks. And.. it's not even February yet. Late Feb into March is when we typically get the nasty weather. Oh...this is just *awesome*.
Yup. that was more sarcasm.

A non-30 day post?
As Joe Dirt would say.. waahhhaaaattt??
HaHA.
I must say, I've somewhat enjoyed the 30 day challenge. It's made me think...which doesn't happen often! (not a word!).... that other than the challenge, I don't post much outside the 30 day anymore. In fact, I don't think I've posted at all since I started..... however, I have found another 30 day challenge to do when this one is up? And yes, I have had to be reminded a few times that I was behind on updating this one (thanks, babe! lol)... but, at least adds some interest to my blog? Yes? hahaha.
So, work... eh.. it's work. No changes. Been there over 18 months now. CRAZY!!!
Love... it's great. Was lucky enough to spend the holidays with my aussie love. Can't lie...while I loved being with him, did hit a small bump in the road. But am happy to say it was just a bump. If anything, brought us closer. God I love him...even when he makes me mad...which, is honestly not often!!! I'm guessing I cause him more frustration and anger... but I did warn him?? haha. I do love him....very much.... lots of details in the works right now... I mean, you don't start a relationship with a man 11K miles away without realizing there is gonna be stuff to work out. But if it's right... it's right. The rest are just details.
Had an awesome time with Wayne. White christmas, sledding, snow ball fights... hockey game with Amber and her hubby up in Indy..... a week of racing in Tulsa (well, thanks to my love I spent one night at the hotel watching chick flicks and hanging at the bar...)...... His first ever white christmas. Our first new years eve together...invaded a hot tub at 2am in the middle of a drizzling rain..just the two of us.... lord the memories we made that we we hopefully never forget..
And if we do..there is always a blog to remind us. ;)
From Tulsa...we flew together to Dallas. Mr travel man "never sleeps on planes"...and within an instant, he was sound asleep. I took this moment to lay on his shoulder as he laid his head on mine. I didn't sleep. Instead I embraced the last moment that we would spent together until April (or sooner). I can still hear him breathing.......breathing in...breathing out.... each second of that hour'ish flight, I embraced. He. Was. Out. And I loved it..... until I realized it was almost over. Time to land in Dallas.
Have you been to DFW airport? Yeah. It's MASSIVE. I had a nearly 3 hr layover...he had a 55 min layover. We loaded up on the tram to get to his gate. The whole way, it felt surreal. Like the fact that he was within inches from me... kissing my forehead..holding my hand...surely this was never gonna end? Right? Wrong. Once we got there, we could have a seat, and hug, and talk. Right? Wrong. As SOON as we get to the terminal, they are boarding. All along, I had been the "man" of steel...even that morning as he lay in tears in our hotel in Tulsa.. I was ok. We still had several more hours together..so no need to be upset yet.. right? Wrong. Totally wrong. It was now time to part. I watched him check in to the terminal, in tears. And as he approached the doors to walk onto that plane, he looked backed, in tears..and waved. I watched him walk down the platform. All the way to the curve...the point in which I could no longer see my love.
And yes, I know that we are in the process of making the miles a temporary thing, but for now, it's part of "us". I love him...and I hate the miles. Can't wait until we can lay in bed everynight and laugh about the misery involved with our separation.. until then, I curse the miles.
It's so exciting..the whole thing. Tonight I've been reading back over my first blog ever (which is now gone..except to me...hehe) and it felt so good to read some of his posts on my blogs. It's crazy...sometimes love catches us when we least expect it. Not complaining at all...who would've known... my best friend would become my partner in life. I love it. I love him. I love it all...even the miles (kinda....lol).
Ok, so there is your update.. cause I know all my followers are just DYING to know what's up with me..haha. Hope this finds everyone doing well, staying warm, and finding love...... as I type this it is hailing and we are expecting snow.... like 5-6''. WAYNE. You asked for this...get back here and enjoy would'ya??? ;)

30 day challenge / day 16
Day 16 - A picture of someone who inspires you.
Dr. Thomas Pinkstaff (Feb. 26, 1937 - Easter Sunday Apr. 12, 2009 )
Dr. Thomas Pinkstaff (Feb. 26, 1937 - Easter Sunday Apr. 12, 2009 )
Dr. Pinkstaff was one of the most amazing physicians and person I have ever had the honor of knowing and working with. He was kind. Sweet. Caring. Compassionate, and passionate about life, work (pediatrics), family, and god. I never saw the man angry, upset, or not wearing a smile. He always had something nice to say about everyone. Never once did I hear him say anything negative. I think the most negative comment I heard him say once was "so-and so...well, they are a little odd".... Even that comment shocked me from him (even though the person he was referring to was far from odd and was just down right evil with a rotten core). He loved his wife and family. Every Friday, he knew that his wife would have her hair done, so he would call her to tell her "honey your hair looks beautiful" he'd say smiling and laughing. Every Friday. You could tell when he discussed his wife, he loved her so passionately. At the end of every phone call, we knew he was talking to her with the sweet voice saying "I love you dear" He had that "sparkle" in his eye discussing her, the children, and the grandchildren (who spent the night every Friday night.....which at 3pm every Friday he would remind us how excited he was to see the kids. And discuss the big plans that they had that weekend. One of the children was autistic, but he certainly never seemed to favor him, or seem to treat him any different because of it. I actually would sometimes forget he had an autistic grandchild just because in conversation, he was his grandson... not the grandson with autism. Just the grandson. Which is awesome.
He had a wonderful sense of humor, and some of the jokes were jokes that we heard weekly. But of course, we laughed as if we had never once heard the joke. "like a tomato, I'll ketchup with you later". Some of those cute little one liners were just part of Dr. Tom, and if we didn't hear them at some point in the day, we would actually be worried and know something was wrong. But, that was hardly the case. At least if something was wrong, he never showed it.
He was extremely supportive of all the staff. Even those who seemed to some of us to be the most useless waste of space (hey, we all have them as coworkers at some point or another) he would find the positives in them. And never failed to point them out to that person and other people. He would tell me "you should go to Medical School, April. You are so smart." "You always do such a wonderful job" "the patients are so blessed to have you take care of them!" The clinic certainly seemed to have a much more upbeat and positive feel on days that Dr. Tom was working.
"Dr Tom" as his patients called him.... loved him. Deeply. A lot of the patients were children of patients that he had taken care of when they were young many many moons prior. And I don't think I remember a time that he didn't remember a patient that he had taken care of... regardless if they were 2 months old, or 30 or 40 years old. It was part of his charm. And no matter how bratty the patient, or pain in the you know what the parent was...he treated them all the same..with the same admiration. No matter how far behind we were in the schedule, he never appeared rushed. Never cut short the small talk and catching up with generations of patients. He had a way with patients too, boy did he ever. I don't know if it was his gentleness or calming voice, or warm smile.
Here is a website that discusses some of the "facts" behind Dr. Pinkstaff. You know, the what he accomplished in his career..where he worked. But at the end of the day, those are facts that define very little on *WHO* you were.
Dr. Pinkstaff had a very short battle with cancer. It was one that once they discovered, he only was given a couple of weeks to live. I remember that Easter Sunday. I was in the Children's Hospital doing my clinical internship for Nursing School. I over heard someone say "I heard Dr. Pinkstaff passed away about an hour ago". My heart sunk, and the tears began. Of course, nobody knew that I knew him and had known him for 3 years at this point. So I took a moment, and gathered myself together, and carried on the day. I was lucky enough to have a boss who allowed me and another coworker who had worked with him for many years to attend his funeral. It was packed. Eventually all the seats were taken and the only thing left was standing room. Even standing room became hard to find. Many people spoke. Family, friends, colleagues. In the crowd you could find multiple patients as well. I don't think there was a dry eye in the church. I knew at that moment, that this man who had touched me deeply, had touched hundreds of thousands of lives in his life.. if not more. The world really lost an amazing man that day.
The song last played at his funeral, is one that I still don't hear without at least thinking about him... usually a small tear will be involved.

30 day challenge / day 15...
Day 15 - A picture of something you want to do before you die
NYE in NYC.
Granted, I have a lengthy bucket list. Attending a superbowl is up there. Becoming a mom and having a family someday is way up there. The whole NYC on NYE has been on my list since I was like 6. Someday. Perhaps on a really nice unseasonably warm day? Maybe a room with a balcony view? Haha... Princess mode?? Perhaps.... ha!

30 Day challenge / day 13
Day 13 - A picture of your favorite band or artist
Kenny Chesney.........................
Ok. So asking *ME* to name just one band or artist that is my favorite is just asking a LOT. I am huge on lyrics... and some artists/bands have hit me at certain stages in my life that make such an impression.... and I have several FAVORITES. And since I like such a wide range of music, it's hard to pick one "favorite". Afterall, I like jazz, rock, country..... and many different styles within each genre. So, picking one for this blog took a bit. I actually opened up my Itunes to make this selection. Coming across my Kenny Chesney music, I realized I have been a fan since I was about 15. One of my ALL time favorite songs is "the woman with you" by Kenny. I've seen him numerous times and hope to see him at least one more time in my life!! Ok...at least twice???? HAHA!

Day 12 - A picture of something you love
Massage.... ahhhh....
I thought about this one for a while... I could so go a million directions with this. There are a lot of things that I love. And a lot of people that I love that I could put into this blog... I'm not gonna say that massage trumps any of my other loves... it's just, as the challenge asks for.. something that I LOVE!! I think that the more physically demanding my job becomes and has become since being a floor nurse..the more I appreciate (and need sometimes) a good massage! <3!!!! While Wayne was here, we went and had massages...followed by wings and drinks. Ahh..that was a good night..... (will update on my personal life soon.. I promise.. I know you are just hanging by a thread wondering!! HA!)

Day 09 - A picture of the person who has gotten you through the most
My mom. And she continues to be a huge supporter of me and my life. Love her dearly and very thankful that she is a part of my life, and as supportive of me as she is.. lord knows I haven't made the last 30 years overly easy on her!

30 day challenge / day 8
Day 08 - A picture that makes you laugh
This is just part of my boss's office from an April Fool's prank me and some coworkers pulled off a couple years ago. EACH post it note (only 1/2 the office seen here) states:
"Please order more post it notes".
The greatest part was my boss failed to remember it was April fools day (and that the previous year I gave a resignation on April Fool's day right before our big state audit on a program that I coordinated). She went around having everyone write the above statement until she finally realized #1- that it was April fool's. And #2- um... I'm a jokester. It was realllly hard for us to keep a straight face that day!!!

30 day challenge / day 7
Day 07 - A picture of your most treasured item.
This is the top of my graduation cap (all the RN's decorate their cap for graduation, so of course I jumped on board!) Although the actual cap isn't my most treasured item, my nursing degree is very very high on the list. Even though there are times..ok, a lot of times, that I question why I'm in the field, but I know that god brought me to nursing for a reason. And I also know how hard I worked to get where I am. So yes, I'm proud of myself. So, while I have many many personal items I treasure, this is what I decided to post for day 7 of my challenge.

30 Day Challenge / day 6
Day 06 - A picture of a person you'd love to trade places with for a day.
Yup. Oprah Winfrey. She's smart, powerful, successful, independent, wealthy. She has her own jet for christ sake! lol. She's battled her weight up and down for years, and is never embarrassed or ashamed of the weight or the battle that goes along with it. She's been filmed without makeup in casual clothes proudly.

30 day challenge / day 4
Day 04 - A picture of something you wish you could forget.
September 11, 2001. No American who was alive will ever forget where they were on this day. I personally was at work at a Dermatology office. News of the first plane came to our office. At this time the news was reporting "fog" as a factor. We all headed to the break room to see the news reports our self. Come to think of it, I'm not sure that we found a breaking point in our work... I think we all just looked at each other confused and headed to the T.V. There we all stood... about 10 of us or so, in a small room watching the live news reports on a small tv. We are all looking at the tv and stating "Fog? It looks clear as can be!" At this point, terrorism wasn't on our mind, we were just confused on what was happening. We *are* America.. we are safe.. right? As I mentioned we were watching Live news coverage. All of a sudden, at exactly 9:03 am, we watched as the second plane flew into the second tower. Everyone gasped....and then silence. Both in the office, and by the media. Shock, fear, and sadness struck our country. At that exact moment, there was no doubt that this was not an act of fog or poor air traffic control. Our country, the land of the free...the home of the brave... had been attacked. Through the day, we continued business as close to normal... but still taking many breaks to see the updates on news. We received word that the pentagon had been hit as well. At 9:59, Tower 2 fell to the ground. Tower 1 fell shortly after at 10:28. The views from the media that we saw live and that was recapped, and actually still is recapped are sketched in my memory forever. This is definitely an event I wish I could forget.. and I wish had never happened. I'm actually teary eyed just recalling such a tragic day for our country.

30 day challenge / Day 3
Day 03 - A picture of the cast from your favorite show.
In my time on this earth, I've watched quite a few shows... ok, more than one person should. However, even after the show has been off since May 2004, I still LOVE to watch this show! One day, I'm gonna break down and buy the entire series on DVD. Then I won't need cable! haha. Even once in Australia, I was able to tell which episode was being aired after seeing about 5 seconds of the show. A little much? Perhaps....

30 Day Challenge / Day 2
Day 02 - A picture of you and the person you used to be close with
This is my dear friend, Brandy. I love her dearly and think so incredibly highly of her. We went through a lot together, and she has always been someone I know I can count on. Sadly, life chaos has caused us to not be as close as we once were. However, when we do actually get work, family, and life to cooperate for a girls night or dinner, it is generally like not a day has gone by. I wish we were as close as we were, but I'm still honored to call her my friend! Love you Brandy!

Happy New Year.... and welcome to my 30 day Challenge!!!
Well, between the holidays, new years, work, and a HORRIBLE stomach bug, I sadly haven't updated much while my baby has been home for the holidays. However, things have been good and it's been soo wonderful to have him here. Wayne even got his white Christmas. We got some sledding in, and of course the mandatory snowball fight. I will hang my head and say that.... yes.... I lost. But, didn't go down without a fight!! Perhaps if I wasn't laughing my ass off, it would have been easier?
Currently we sit in an airport awaiting a plane to Tulsa, OK for the week. Speedway, of course lol... but it's still a week away from day to day life, and a week together. And the greatest part was we were sitting about to board a couple hours ago, when they come over the intercom and announce they need 2 people to give up their seats... they'll get you to your destination, and $400 travel voucher EACH. Needless to say, we jumped on that one, and we are currently drinking some wine (well, he's got a beer) and enjoying some lunch and killing time. $800 for a 2 hour change of plans.... sold!
So, in my prior blogs, at New Years (which is a BIG BIG thing for me) I do a "year in review"... highs and lows, and goals for the next year. This year, I am not going to do this. I know, and many of you know, about my highs and lows this year, and quite frankly, I don't feel like pulling any old things outta the "box" so to speak. New year resolutions? Well, I never keep them, so I just don't make them. This way I *can't* fail. Works every year! HAHA. The highs for this year, are obvious through my blog. I look forward to all that 2011 has to offer and can't wait to embrace each moment.. the highs and lows.
A lot of my friends are doing this 365 project.. a picture a day for a year. While that sounds awesome, as I previously mentioned above, I'm not good at keeping those kinda commitments. I get busy or whatever and things like that fall off my agenda. (Hello..you've seen how "good" I am at keeping up my blog!) So, one of my friends on Facebook is doing a 30 day challenge. 30 days.. I can do this.... yes?? Maybe... well, hell. I'll try. Looks fun, so I'm gonna do it... so if I can do this, maybe I can move onto the big girl version of 365 days. For now, sticking to the lightweight.....

Here we go....
Day 01 - A picture of yourself with fifteen facts.
(Above picture is taken at Cumberland falls.... in BRRRRR temps on Fri Jan 7th. Taken by Wayne.)
1. I am an over-worrier. Worry Wart. To the max. If someone says "we need to talk".. .I INSTANTLY go to the worst case scenario. If someone sighs, I ask "what's wrong". If someone is mad, I assume it's something I've done. I am *really* trying hard to improve this.
2. I'm a little bit on the OCD side. Ok. A LOT. Certain things have their place. Certain things have to be a certain way (the tv angle, where the alarm clock sits, where the toothpaste sits, etc). Granted, I'm not like Jack Nicholson on "As good as it gets"... it doesn't CONSUME me or anything like that. But, I've learned over the past few weeks when going from living alone and able to have things how I want them, to sharing the space and those silly obsessions...that they aren't the important things, and I need to chill out a little. Ok, probably a lot. (and as I type this, I just stopped to clean my laptop monitor. Really? Jeeze...)
3. I love football. I'm a little outta the loop this year between trip to Australia and work, work, and work... but it's my favorite sport. Love it.
4. I love my friends like family. I have some of the most amazing friends, and when I'm close to a friend, I will do whatever I need to for them.
5. I am very close to my mom. This is something that 10 years ago nobody would ever believe would happen. Growing up we were quite close. However about the age of 14 or 15, that changed and we became quite distant. Over the past few years we have gotten closer and closer. The last year we have gotten SUPER close and she almost feels like a sister at this point.
6. I own far too much black clothes. When I'm shopping, I really try to stay away from black, but end up finding myself with like 10 black sweaters in my closet, and 10 short sleeve black tops...some are almost identical. And no, I'm not a goth chick. I just like it.
7. I am a klutz. If there is a 2''x2'' spot of ice, *I* will be the one to find it, fall, sprang my ankle, break an arm, and get a concussion. That's just how graceful I am. It's. Pathetic. Truly. My middle name is NOT grace for quite a good reason.
8. I am terrified of heights. Even with this, I love roller coasters and high places (scenic mountains, etc). Crazy.
9. I am huge into lyrics and quotes. No matter what kind of day you are having...good, bad... and no matter what the event, there is basically a lyric and quote to fit the mood. This is obvious on my former blog where I had TONS of quotes posted... (maybe I'll transfer some more over to here at some point?)
10. I hate reality TV, but cannot get myself unhooked from the Teen Mom/16 and pregnant series. It's like a bad car wreck and I cannot stop watching. And good news is....it's time for a new season!!! Guilty pleasure?!?! Totally. Any other reality TV, I typically despise. Rare exceptions, but overall two thumbs wayyyy down.
11. I spend FAR too much time on the computer, internet, facebook, iphone, texting, etc. Does it bother me? Nah. Just a fact. I did enjoy my break from instant technology while in Australia, but also do enjoy the immediate access to technology.
12. I like being a nurse, but find that I don't have the love for it that I thought I would. Politics seems to get in the way with what you think you should be able to do. Physically it is far more demanding than anyone ever realizes, and more than anyone ever lets you know when you are pursing the field. I still think I'm a good nurse, but am looking forward to the day when I can slow it down, and focus on a family with nursing possibly on the side... not nursing with life on the side.
13. I love dogs. I am allergic to cats, but think they are a quite sneaky creature anyways. Dont' trust them much. Dogs on the other hand, are the one creatures in the world that no matter what you do to them or say to them... when you walk into the door, they are SO excited to see you. You could not feed them or give them water for days... when you come home... they will kiss you and just jump for joy and just be so excited they can't sit still because their "person" is home. Who can say they've ever gotten that reaction from a human?
14. I have insomnia. This is starting to get better...but still an issue that I deal with daily. Even if it's a night of good sleep, the hours leading up to sleep, I wonder if I am gonna get any sleep or quality sleep that night. If I can't fall asleep, I'm consumed by the fact that the next day is going to be a busy day and that sleep is VITAL. If I don't get sleep, the next day I am so worked up that I didn't get sleep, I will sometimes wonder all day if I am going to get some sleep that night. I had been on a sleeping pill for years that guaranteed my sleep.. however have been off that with the exception of a couple of work nights for over a month now. I'm really trying to stay off of the Ambien and am proud of myself for the progress that I have made.
15. I usually get really excited really easily when it's something I'm looking forward to. Current excitement? April in Australia in April. Making the next step plans while we figure out everything else really makes me happy and excited. Still have a week together to enjoy before Wayne heads to Australia.. however, I'm already excited about the next time we see each other... and I get to see the family!! Yah!!
Ok... off to catch a plane to Chicago then head to Tulsa!!!!! See ya in central time, peeps!!
