I'm home!

After 40 hrs of travel, my niece and I safely arrived to the land down under.  (Now the song is stuck in your head yes?  haha).  Luckily there wasn't much problems with travel and the layovers for each flight (four TOTAL) was perfect.  Not too short, not too long... enough to stretch, find the next gate, grab a meal or snack, bathroom, charge Iphone (for my on board musical and angry bird entertainment)... load plane..take off (annnndddd...repeat.).  Landing on the last was quite rough turbulence, but other than that, all was good!  Oh, and did I mention this gal was totally sleep deprived??  Yeah.... certainly was.  First night here I am sure I was in bed and asleep by 9:30... up at 7 the next morning.  And while I was totally exhausted, this also allowed me the chance to quite quickly get on a normal schedule here.  So, guess I can't complain.  Oh who are we kidding?  Of course I'm gonna complain!! HAHA.  jk.  ;)

Night one was dinner at a local Asian joint, Kulcha.  As we sit waiting for our meal, I looked and there was an empty spot where a table once sat.  I suddenly remembered this table and the significance of said missing table.  It was where on my last night in Perth in March, after Wayne and I broke up (which thank god didn't last...obviously...)  that we had dinner.....My plane wasn't leaving Perth until late (like 11:30pm I believe) and Wayne offered to take me to dinner, and recommended this restaurant knowing I liked it.  We went and we talked, not about what was going on, but just like old friends.  Which by all means, we were.  We laughed.  We fought back tears and attempted to hide emotions.  It was somewhere in those two hours that something sparked.  A fire that I thought had burned out, was actually stronger than ever.  So, fast forward four months, and there we were again.  My first night home.  How appropriate, and unplanned even.  Although this time, there were no tears, and no moments of awkward silence.

Today was Saturday.  I cooked breakfast, we sat and looked at the sales ads and chatted at the kitchen table for a bit after a nice sleep in.  Which also meant for the second morning, I got to wake up and hear the words "good morning" and "I love you" face to face.  Today's agenda?  Laundry, relaxing, grocery shopping... the normal typical Saturday stuff for most typical couples.....  The simple day to day things that I didn't realize just how much I missed until today.  At all.

One thing I have noticed (well, I've noticed a lot, but as far as blog worthy things go)....  ok, guess I should start with a back story on this one.  I grew up in a town called Richmond, but for the past 7 or 8 years, I lived in Lexington.  No matter what, I always felt at "home" in Lexington.  Richmond....not so much.  But Lexington... ahhh.. THAT was home.  Even when I didn't have a "home" in Lexington.  Yup, even then.  So fast forward to Thursday afternoon upon arrival to Perth.  On the drive to Wayne's parents house from the airport (ehh.. about a 30 min drive I guess?)  I instantly got the feeling that not a day had gone by.  Talking with the future in laws, didn't feel like a day had gone by.  I thought that certainly this was simply related to jet lag and exhaustion.  Next stop was home.  I walked into the house and again, not a day had gone by.  I quickly discovered I remembered where everything was.  I knew which drawer the silverware was placed in.  I knew exactly where the towels were.  Without even looking, I could successfully get the dirty clothes into the clothes hamper.  Again, it felt like it hadn't been but perhaps a week since I was last here.... if even that long.  I can now say with all my heart.. I am home.

I am *home*.

So long Hagerstown......

Ah, another bitter sweet goodbye.  I'm so excited to get back to Kentucky to my friends and family, but will somewhat miss this place.  The town is...well... boring.  However, it's close to DC (which I LOVE!!!) and I have some good memories here, and I have met some AMAZING people and have been revived (so to speak) in nursing.  I was sooo burnt out on alcohol and drug addicts.  It's been nice to ACTUALLY have to use my brain, and not just passify a few drunks until shift change.  And experience a LOT of nursing firsts, such as my first patient death (expected, but not always easy) and learned more about the nurse I am and the nurse I want to be.

Being alone in a town for all but the three weeks Wayne was here was sometimes lonely, but all in all taught me soooo much about myself.  About 2 yrs ago, I never saw myself leaving Kentucky.  Then, here I was, in DC on the streets at night, taking pictures of myself playing chess with some homeless guy.  Who does that?? lol.  It has been one of those self learning experiences.  Wow, I *AM* capable of so much more than I EVER gave myself credit for.  I mean hell.  I was give one day orientation at the hospital before being on my own.  Think of all the passwords, codes, and policies I had to absorb in 12 hrs.  Every door, medicine cart, etc, etc... has their own code.  And, phone numbers.  And doctors.. who is Dr. so-and-so?  It's 3 am and my patient is crashing, um.. who do I call?  Yeah, these were all things as a staff nurse I had DOWN.  As a new AGENCY nurse knowing nobody or anything.. yeah, not so much.  This was TOTALLY out of my comfort zone, and if you know me, you know I LOVE my comfort zone.  After working with some doctors for 5 years or so, I could call up and say "Mrs. Whatshername needs ______ because _____"  the answer was usually "yeah, that's cool.  Here... I don't know the doctors, and they don't know (or fully trust) me, like my old doctors.  So that was a huge step back for me.  And there were nights I felt so frustrated because I didn't feel I could be the nurse I COULD be...because of the orders.  Hey, if you aren't a nurse and reading this, dont' blame your nurse when you are in pain, blame the doctors who refuse to give us orders to give you something for appropriate pain medicine... .just sayin.. And now, OFF the soap box... for now.  hehe.

So, I have packed up all my belongings (minus the necessities like soap and such) and am ready to pack up and head to Kentucky.  Thank you Hagerstown and the awesome people I've met.  It's been a pleasure.

"back to home"

Many moon ago I went through a divorce at quite a young age.  And me with a love for lyrics discovered a band "Cross Canadian Ragweed".  Love them.  Was even lucky enough to see them in Louisville on the last leg of their LAST tour (forever).  Um.. I guess it was 7 1/2 yrs ago this song was strong for me, and tonight I listened to it, and ya know what?  It's very strong to my current life as well, esp the end.... "back to home".....  And I apologize for all the lyrics and songs... well, not really.. it's my blog.. hehehe.  :)

And since I couldn't find a video with lyrics, here are the lyrics... which are so strong to me right now..

"Got your bag on your shoulder,
Never thought once about thinkin' it over.
Feel like you're the only one,
Who's ever been in a bad situation.
Now you need to take yourself a love vacation,
'Cause after all, what's done is done.

Sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Everything around you's growin' old.
The days drag on, the nights last forever,
Every day's tougher just to keep it together.
Forget everything you've ever known,
Except for home.

He made a promise he couldn't keep.
I bet he's not losing a bit of sleep,
Over how you're getting down the line.
Now don't you fret, now don't you worry,
Don't get in too much of a hurry,
'Cause up ahead's that city limit sign.

Sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Everything around you's growin' old.
The days drag on, the nights last forever,
Every day's tougher just to keep it together.
Forget everything you've ever known,
Except for home.

Home is where the heart is:That's what somebody once said. (Yeah.)
I think your heart is where your love is:All the rest baby, the rest it's all in your head.

Well, memories, they're over-rated:
All they do is get you down an' frustrated,
And who needs that on their back?
Starting over, cold turkey,
Washin' your soul of everything that's dirty.
Seal your heart of every crack.

You're no longer sick and tired.
Everything around you feels brand new.
Yeah. the days fly by, the nights could be longer:
Every day you're just a little bit stronger,
Now that you've spread your wings and flown,
Back to home.
Back to home.
Back to home. (Home.)
Yeah, back to home.
(Back to home.) "

could not ask for more....

World of emotions...

I now leave for Australia in 20 days.  Nearly to the teens on the countdown.  I'm so excited, nervous, happy, etc, etc.

And I'm super happy that my niece is making the journey with me for the first 2 weeks.  I can't wait for her to experience the land down under.. and maybe a PART of me is hoping she will fall in love with the place (NOT hard to to...trust me) and some day move to Australia to live and start her life?  Just a random outloud thought.  lol

But for now, I'm BEAT! Work the last 2 nights has totally kicked my ass and the bed is screaming my name!!! :)

Love to all.

"just a kiss goodnight..."

The last song I posted reminds me of the begining of me and the Aussie... however, blogger was being a bioth and not letting me add comments or anything.  Hey.  It's my blog dude.  I'll post what I want.

yeah, it didnt respond to violence..   just like my 1980's microwave, 1970's air conditioner, etc, etc..yeah..blah blah blah.

Violence may not be the answer, but sometimes it seems like the best resolution.  :)

So, I leave in 22 days for my final depature to Oz.  I am just so excited.

2 blogs in 1 night....what what?

Random Thought...

Do you ever stop and think about your life?  No.  Like, REALLY think about your life.  All the unanswered prayers, let downs, heartbreaks, lost jobs, passed oppertunities..... and realize the worst things that have ever happened had just as much of an effect, if not more, on your life as the good things?  That the things that one day you cursed for happening.... you actually have to thank for where you are in life?

Just something to think about.
